Sky Sports pundit makes Danny Rohl to Southampton prediction to excite fans
Regarding whether Danny Rohl’s possible employment at Southampton will make them the favourites for automatic
promotion the next season, Lee Hendrie has made his opinion known.
After a stellar tenure as Sheffield Wednesday’s manager, Rohl has become one of the leading candidates to succeed
Ivan Juric at St Mary’s. Prior to taking on the role of first-team manager at Hillsborough, the German was Ralph
Hasenhuttl’s assistant.
Southampton do face competition for the 36-year-old with Leicester City and RB Leipzig also interested. There is
also talk of a potential move to Saudi Arabia, where he’d leave European football, and he is believed to have a £5m
release clause in his contract.
Southampton promotion candidates with or without Danny Rohl
Liam Rosenior of Strasbourg and Will Still of RC Lens are potential substitutes if Southampton is unable to sign
Rohl. Last Saturday, the Saints held Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at St Mary’s, their greatest
victory of the season.
Hendrie examined the club’s prospects for the upcoming season in light of rumours that Rohl will return to the
South Coast. The Football League World was informed by the former Aston Villa midfielder:
“Do I believe Southampton will automatically be a contender for promotion if they sign Danny Rohl? I genuinely
believe that they will be anyhow.
Russel Martin led the Saints to promotion through the playoffs in 2023–24, their sole return to the EFL
Championship. With 87 points, his team came in fourth.
The return to the Premier League has been disappointing and will result in a disastrous finish. However, Hendrie
believes the group is resilient enough to recover:
“I think this is a team, and we’ve seen it quite frequently in teams that are coming back out of the Premier League,
are usually the ones that are there or thereabouts to go back up.”
All eyes will be on how the Southampton squad looks heading into next season with the summer transfer window
around the corner. Several players’ futures are uncertain, including 19-year-old wonderkid Tyler Dibling, whom the
club are reportedly demanding £100m for.
Danny Rohl gave a hint over his future
Since October 2023, Rohl has been leading Sheffield Wednesday, his first first-team managerial position. As a
member of Hasenhuttl’s backroom staff at St Mary’s, he had already shown signs of becoming a good coach.
With 15 victories in 46 games this season, the German has led the Owls to a 12th-place Championship finish. Despite
the club’s financial constraints, he has accomplished this, and considering their circumstances, it might be the best
he can do for them.
Rohl has ambitions to manage at the top level and alluded to this when pressed about his future (via Yorkshire Post):
“I’ve always made it clear that I want to work with the best players at the highest level soon. Naturally, the
Bundesliga is also considered. Informally, my situation in Sheffield is rather clear. My vision for the future is well
understood by the owner.
He may be convinced to return to St. Mary’s in order to take on a significant role in English football, despite the fact
that his comments indicate interest in the Leipzig role. He already knows the club, is the supporters’ choice to
replace Juric, and might end the next season with a promotion to the Premier League.
