Son of ex-Blades favourite lands on trial at Sheffield Wednesday

Alexander Asaba, the son of former Sheffield United favourite, Carl, is spending some time on trial at Sheffield Wednesday.

Aside from the fact that he previously played for Gillingham’s academy, little is known about the adolescent, who is now aiming to display his talent in South Yorkshire in order to secure a contract.

Asaba, whose father was a Steel City Derby scorer against the Owls during his playing days, played for a young Wednesday team that defeated Frickley Athletic 4-1 this month, with Devlan Moses and George Brown scoring twice apiece at Westfield Lane.

Sheffield Wednesday are looking at new youth players

It remains to be seen whether he will play for the Owls again when they face Stocksbridge Park Steels at Bracken Moor this evening, but there is a good chance that some new faces will be present given that many Wednesday U21s are currently training with the senior team at Middlewood Road.

The Owls play the Steels today at 7 p.m., with a ‘Wednesday XI’ facing the Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit.
Another Wednesday XI will face Lincoln United tomorrow afternoon, followed by games against Derby County on July 26th, Scarborough Athletic on August 1st, and Grimsby Town on August 2nd. The teams will be made up of U18s, U21s, and a combination of the two.

Meanwhile, the Owls have not confirmed any formal first-team friendly, but they are scheduled to play Mansfield Town at a ‘neutral site’ behind closed doors on July 26th at 3pm.
