Plymouth will officially announce Tom Cleverley as their new manager, according to Football Insider sources. The club, which has been demoted to League One, has agreed to hire the 35-year-old former Watford manager after being impressed during additional talks this week.
Cleverley is set to replace Miron Muslic, who left for Schalke at the end of last month, with an appointment scheduled within the next 24 hours. A full agreement is in place, and the deal’s paperwork is currently being finished.
Cleverley reaches full agreement with Plymouth
Cleverley, who was fired by Watford last month after finishing 14th in the Championship, has been selected as Plymouth’s top target following final interviews with four candidates on Wednesday (June 11). Candidates such as Jack Wilshere and Des Buckingham are believed to have been in discussions.
Cleverley retired as a player in 2023, but remained with Watford and was appointed caretaker manager in March 2024.

He impressed in that job and was promoted to full-time a month later, however Paulo Pezzolano has since taken over as Hornets manager. The former Manchester United midfielder won 18 of his 55 Championship games in charge at Vicarage Road, drawing the remaining 14.
Plymouth finished 23rd in the second tier last season, following a turbulent campaign in which they fired Wayne Rooney midway through the season.
Plymouth target instant Championship return
Argyle have now made four summer signings, including Bradley Ibrahim, Jack MacKenzie, Jamie Paterson, and Caleb Watts. The Devon club will aim for an immediate return to the Championship next season, but will have heavy competition from fellow relegated rivals Cardiff and Luton. Meanwhile, Plymouth’s Bali Mumba has been linked with a summer exit from Home Park after impressing in the second tier.
