Southampton maintains that there won’t be a single club return this season.

Throughout the upcoming season, Southampton is determined not to let Flynn Downes cement a return to the club.

For the third year in a row, Southampton supporters are aware that a transfer window would be completely lacking without the persistent

. Then, whether it was his signing a permanent contract at St Mary’s, his arrival from West Ham, or his abrupt withdrawal from the winter matchday squads, Downes has always led Saints to consider him a past player.

But for whatever reason, that time hasn’t come. Furthermore, Southampton’s decision-makers have no intention of letting Downes leave the squad, especially not under any circumstances.

to prevent his previous team from bringing the 26-year-old with them that summer. More specifically, the Saints want Downes to stay away from Ipswich Town since he has worn a variety of other uniforms prior to Southampton’s.

The Saints Extra cited journalist Alfie House’s update, pointing to the obvious explanation: “Southampton would not consider selling midfielder Flynn Downes to a promotion rival such as Ipswich.”

Downes is not supposed to follow Vestergaard’s route, according to the Saints.
Swansea is another of Downes’ former haunts, but they haven’t had much success in the top six lately, and Southampton won’t be expecting any major surprises from them either. Thus, it all boils down to Ipswich, and it’s encouraging for the supporters to see the board learning from its history.

With former Saints centre-back Jannik Vestergaard supporting the Foxes‘ back-five formations, they had previously helped Leicester City’s push for promotion. So much so that Vestergaard’s pursuit of the league championship abroad threatened Southampton’s own Premier League qualification at one point.

The Denmark international will still be looking forward to the six-pointer matchups versus Southampton at the top of the league. Therefore, it is only right that Downes refrains from imitating Vestergaard’s actions after leaving the team, especially while the Saints are engaged in the same conflict.
