Southend United Skipper Nathan Ralph Promises to Demolish Oldham Athletic at Wembley

Southend United captain Nathan Ralph has boldly declared his team’s intent to “demolish” Oldham Athletic in the National League play-off final at Wembley, as the Blues eye a return to the Football League.

The commanding defender, who has led by example throughout Southend’s resurgence this season, admitted the magnitude of reaching the final is still sinking in — but he insists there’s only one outcome in his mind when the two sides meet under the arch.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling to reach Wembley — it still hasn’t fully sunk in,” Ralph told club media. “But now that we’re here, there’s only one thing left to do: finish the job and absolutely demolish Oldham.”

Southend, under Kevin Maher’s leadership, have shown resilience and unity in the face of financial struggles and off-pitch uncertainty. Their path to the final was far from easy, but Ralph believes the adversity has only hardened the squad’s mentality.

“We’ve come through so much this season — points deductions, injuries, the lot. But this group has never stopped believing. We’ve earned our place in that final, and we’re going there with full confidence,” said Ralph.

Oldham Athletic, themselves a storied club with Football League history, stand between Southend and promotion. But Ralph is unfazed.

“With all due respect to Oldham, we’re focused on ourselves. We’ll stick to our plan, play with intensity, and give the fans a day to remember. This club belongs in the Football League, and we’re going to prove that at Wembley.”

The stage is set for a titanic clash, and Southend fans will be hoping their captain’s fighting words turn into action on the pitch.
