Stefan Borson drops ‘enormous’ Rangers verdict as 49ers stadium plan revealed.
Rangers are on the verge of a new era as the 49ers Enterprises-backed takeover nears completion at Ibrox.
The US consortium, led by Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe and health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh, aims to complete the deal within the coming weeks.
Red Bull, known for its close relationship with the 49ers, is expected to become the Rangers’ new shirt sponsor in the near future.
According to the Scottish Daily Express (April 27), the consortium plans to increase the capacity of Ibrox Stadium, which currently seats 51,600.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that adding more seats makes sense if there is sufficient demand.
Rangers achieved a record-breaking revenue of £88.3 million last season, up from £83.8 million in 2022-23.
The club’s matchday revenue increased from £39.9 million to £43.8 million during the same period.
Rangers could get a financial boost after stunning twist.
Borson believes qualifying for the Champions League will significantly impact Rangers’ finances and expansion plans.
“If there is a demand for more, it certainly makes sense.
“With the best will in the world, Scottish Premiership broadcast rights are not going to increase significantly anytime soon.
“Even if they doubled their front-of-shirt sponsorship, it’s only worth £3 million more, so it’s not going to increase significantly.
“Retail will grow slowly, but it won’t move anywhere. So, what else can they do on Uefa?
“How can they get into the Champions League? That will make a huge difference.
“We understand the differences between the Europa League, the Conference League, and the Champions League.
“That’s one key lever they can experiment with, while the other is gate receipts.
