Stockport County v Huddersfield Town: ‘It has to come from them,’ says hurt Jon Worthington
On a dismal Good Friday, Jon Worthington had few answers because the majority of Huddersfield Town’s issues
were caused by others rather than by him.
However, he wants his players to be more proud of themselves when they play Stockport County on Easter Monday.
With three games remaining, a victory over Cambridge United, who appeared destined for League Two, would have
dropped Town two points off of the play-off spots. Instead, until Josh Koroma’s goal in the 89th minute, the Terriers
played like puppies, hoarding the ball and doing very little with it. The visitors scored twice on either side of it.
“The goals were poor. Very poor,” is all Worthington would say about them.
Mark Cartwright, the sports director, was fired a little more than an hour after full-time on that day for managing a
relegation, four manager changes, and subpar hiring over the previous two years.
“I hope not,” interim coach Worthington said when asked if his team was content to not place in the top six. I haven’t
caused or allowed that to occur.”
On Friday, professional pride was conspicuously absent.
Worthington stated, “It should be about that every time they step on the pitch,” That’s why Friday stung
so much. They must be the source. Although there are several issues that need to be resolved at this point,
we must proceed because the game is approaching too soon. We’ll see who is available because the
season’s biggest story was the number of players we lost due to injuries.
Both Callum Marshall and Radinio Balker are sceptical.
