Stoke City have kickstarted a huge summer transfer window with the announcement of their retained list just two days after the final game of the season.

Mark Robins, who arrived as manager on New Year’s Day, is overseeing his first real chance to help shape a squad that can pull the Potters firmly in the right direction after two arduous campaigns fighting against relegation.

There will be a lot of work to do. The first news has been that Lewis Baker is staying, as well as back-up keepers Jack Bonham and Frank Fielding, while Jordan Thompson, Enda Stevens, Lynden Gooch and Michael Rose are leaving, as well as loan players Ashley Phillips, Ali Al-Hamadi, Lewis Koumas, Andrew Moran and Josh Wilson-Esbrand. Ryan Mmaee has been told he can go too.

That leaves a lot of space in the changing room while there are debates about whether Stoke should try to cash in on a first team asset to fund a building project over the next few weeks. There is bound to be interest in key men such as Viktor Johansson, Wouter Burger, Million Manhoef and Bae Junho.
