Viktor Johansson left Rotherham United for Stoke City last summer and is the Potters’ first-choice custodian this season.
Johansson, a Sweden international, played 49 games for Stoke City, finishing 18th in the Championship table. After the 2024/25 season, he has already returned to his home country to train with Hammarby Fotboll, according to Sportbladet.

The Stoke City custodian attended the Swedish club’s academy from 2012 to 2015 and has now returned to practice with his former team. “I keep going. I’m doing some training.
I’ve been running now for two or three days. So I’ll drive as far as I can, I decided. “It’s exciting to come down here and run with such talented goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches,” he stated.
The former Rotherham United player believes he has profited by practicing with Hammarby’s No. 1 Warner Hahn. “Yes, of course.” You learn every day. The custodian is quite talented. He has shown it season after season. “Of course, I learn,” Johansson explained.
His contract with the English club expires in 2027, and he has stated that he does not intend to return to his former team during the summer transfer window.
“Yes, it is only temporary. But it seems like home. I’ve spent an unbelievable amount of time here in my youth, so it’s enjoyable to be here. “I’m extremely grateful that the club allows me to train and keep going,” he continued.
Meanwhile, the Swede stated that Stoke City failed to achieve their goal of finishing in the top half of the Championship table this season. The goaltender stated that he and his teammates hope to improve their league ranks next season.
