Stoke City’s ‘generous offer’ to Huddersfield revealed after Sorba Thomas transfer

Lee Grant, the new manager of Huddersfield Town and a former Stoke City goalkeeper, has wished the Potters’ new recruit Sorba Thomas the best of luck in his latest venture and stated that the club made a ‘decent’ offer to the Terriers to get him.

Welsh international winger Thomas has become Mark Robins’ first signing in what may be a hectic summer in the market for the club, having said goodbye to a slew of out-of-contract senior players at the end of the previous season. They were proactive in the early stages of the window to sign Thomas, who had previously played on loan at Blackburn and Nantes.

Grant, who spent two years in the Potteries between 2016 and 2018 toward the end of Stoke’s Premier League tenure, is relieved that if he loses Thomas, it will be early in the window so that he can find a successor, and he verified that Thomas himself lobbied for the transfer.

“Stoke City have presented the club with a generous offer for Sorba’s services and the player has shown a desire to pursue that opportunity, so it’s a deal that works for all concerned,” says Grant. “I wish him nothing but the best with his new side.” We’ve stated publicly that we want to complete our business as soon as possible in this transfer window, ahead of an extremely important summer and pre-season, and this applies to both exits and incoming players. The sooner we can get our squad established and defined, the better.

“Having this agreed early allows us greater flexibility and clarity in the transfer market as we look to continue our work rebuilding the squad and bringing top class talent to the club ahead of the new season.”
