Stuart Pearce says Nottingham Forest had a ‘brilliant’ player so good you could play him anywhere on the pitch
The notorious “Psycho” is the most iconic of all the Forest legends when it comes to ranking.
Pearce, who has the fourth-most Forest appearances on record, enjoyed playing with some of the greatest players the City Ground has ever had.
Pearce’s favorite player at Forest was Des Walker, but the former left-back has recently used the opportunity to laud another former teammate.
Despite only playing alongside Pearce for three seasons, Roy Keane clearly made an impact on his Forest teammate.
After Keane arrived from Ireland, Brian Clough became a big fan, and it appears Pearce feels the same way.
Pearce discussed Keane’s influence at the City Ground on the Overlap’s Stick To Rugby podcast.
You’re off the hook after Cloughy put him in the first team. For a few years, it was amazing and fantastic for us. For a little child, he had the energy to move from box to box; you could tell that he had an advantage, and that advantage still exists today.
However, he was one of those players who could be used wherever and would be your greatest player. He played center defense, midfield, and right-hand side.
“Call it what you want, but he had that edge, that little bit of nastiness, and a will to win.” However, you were aware that he possessed the mindset to get him where he desired to go.
Pearce’s admiration for Keane appears to be reciprocal, as he has lavished praise on his old teammate.
Speaking about his time at the City Ground, Keane noted Pearce’s contribution to the Forest dressing room and even said that he looked up to the left-back.
In March 2023, Keane told the Overlap, “You would look for senior players when I was a young player at Forest and I would see Pearcey and he was a proper pro.”
“In contrast, when I would see Des in these bars in Nottingham at night, I would think, ‘I want to be like Des and I want to be like Pearcey as well.'”
