Sunderland are trying to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic

Despite interest from several teams, Sunderland is making every effort to close a deal for Chelsea custodian Djordje

Petrovic.

The Black Cats swiftly turned their focus to Petrovic, who has been judged surplus to needs at Chelsea, after failing to

sign Poland international Marcin Bulka, who is joining Saudi Arabian team NEOM.

According to reports, Sunderland’s hiring team has reached an agreement with their counterparts at Stamford

Bridge on the terms of a transaction valued at approximately £21.5 million, and they are working to find a quick

conclusion to the ongoing negotiations.

Wearside has already seen a busy week as the team has finalised agreements for former Atletico Madrid full-back

Reinildo and Union Saint Gilloise midfielder Noah Sadiki in addition to confirming the acquisition of Habib Diarra

from Strasbourg.

Sunderland has made pursuing Petrovic their top priority, especially because Florent Ghisolfi, the recently hired

director of football, is now actively involved in the hiring process.

However, they are not the only club to have held talks with Chelsea over the Serbia international, who spent last

season playing in the French top-flight with Strasbourg, where he was a team-mate of Diarra.

Bournemouth are also understood to have held advanced discussions as they look to sign a replacement for Kepa

Arrizabalaga, who spent last season on loan at the Vitality Stadium, but who completed a permanent move to Arsenal

from Chelsea earlier this week.

Two European clubs are rumoured to be interested in ongoing negotiations over Petrovic, while Bournemouth has

discussed financial arrangements of their own with Chelsea’s leadership.

Sunderland officials want to speak with Petrovic and his agents face-to-face as soon as possible since they are aware of the competition. Sunderland would prefer that the matter be settled before the end of the weekend.

Anthony Patterson, the Black Cat’s first-choice custodian as they gained promotion from the Championship the

previous season, will undoubtedly have his future called into question with the appointment of a new custodian.

Given that Aaron Ramsdale is anticipated to leave the Saints this summer, Patterson has been strongly linked to a

potential move to Southampton in the past 24 hours. According to reports, Ramsdale’s contract has a £20 million

release clause that is currently in effect as a result of Southampton’s relegation last season.

Melvin Bard, a left-back for Nice, has also been linked to Sunderland. The Black Cats and several other clubs on the

continent expressed interest in the 24-year-old after he made 34 appearances in Ligue 1 last season. As they go ready

for a Champions League qualification campaign next month, Nice is reportedly hesitant to transfer Bard, according

to French media.
