Sunderland Exclusive: Jobe Bellingham verbally agrees to join new club

Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham has verbally agreed to join Borussia Dortmund, according to Football Insider sources.

The 19-year-old offensive midfielder is set to sign a contract with the German giants on the same day he was promoted to the Premier League by Sunderland.

Bellingham has recently held negotiations with Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Eintracht Frankfurt, but according to insiders, the younger brother of Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham is more convinced by Dortmund’s offer.

It would imply that he will go the same road as Jude, who has briefed his sibling about the advantages of living in Germany with the club.

Bellingham has been vital for Sunderland this season, including a standout performance in the play-off final, but it appears that the Englishman is ready to make a transfer.

Premier League clubs set to miss out on Jobe Bellingham amid Dortmund breakthrough

Since arriving in the North East, the 19-year-old has been a standout at the Stadium of Light, scoring four goals and assisting three times in 40 appearances.
A move away from Sunderland has been rumored throughout the season, with Tottenham and Chelsea both interested in Bellingham.

However, earlier on Monday (May 26), it was announced that Bellingham had been to Germany to meet with Eintracht Frankfurt. However, Borussia Dortmund now appear to be in pole position, with the player increasingly convinced by their offer.

Despite Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League and expectations that top-tier football will keep him at the club, the England youth international is likely to follow in his brother Jude’s footsteps and move to the Bundesliga.

Sunderland could target Jordan Henderson in shock transfer return

Finding a successor for Bellingham will be difficult, but Regis Le Bris’ team may rely on a familiar face for help.

Former chairman Niall Quinn has urged Sunderland to consider signing Jordan Henderson following their return to the Premier League.

Quinn, who spent eight years with the club and supervised Henderson’s move to Liverpool in 2011, believes the midfielder’s experience might be helpful.

Henderson is currently with Ajax after a brief stay in Saudi Arabia. While it remains to be seen whether a return to the North East is possible, his leadership and pedigree might make him an excellent figure to spearhead Sunderland’s Premier League revival.
