Sunderland launch £25.3m bid for Real Madrid striker as Club World Cup star shines

Report claims. The Black Cats have made a formal offer that includes a 25% sell-on clause and a buy-back term from Real Madrid.

Sunderland has made a significant bid for Gonzalo García, a highly regarded striker from Real Madrid. This would be a historic transfer.

According to Spanish newspaper Fichajes, the recently promoted Premier League club has submitted a proposal worth €30 million (about £25.3 million) plus a 25% sell-on clause in an attempt to entice Madrid into doing business. According to the source, any purchase might include Los Blancos’ previously agreed-upon €40 million buy-back clause.

Gonzalo, who is presently competing in the FIFA Club World Cup, is the top scorer and has played an important role under Xabi Alonso. His performances have piqued the interest of clubs across Europe, but Sunderland are thought to be putting in a strong bid to recruit him.

“Sunderland’s management knows that adding Gonzalo would be a hugely impactful signing for a squad looking to consolidate its return to the elite of English football,” according to Fichajes. “The club is investing heavily in a player who has already proven he doesn’t weigh down the shirt, even on the most demanding stages.”

The Black Cats saw García as a transformative talent and a statement signing, reflecting their increased ambition under Régis Le Bris, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, and Florent Ghisolfi. While talks are still ongoing and no agreement has been reached, Fichajes claims Sunderland has “returned to the fray with a new formal offer” as they seek to outmanoeuvre rival teams from across Europe.

Gonzalo’s mobility, poise in front of goal, and understanding between the lines have made him one of the tournament’s breakout performers. Though Real Madrid has not yet announced if they are willing to deal with the attacker permanently, Sunderland’s daring move is unlikely to go ignored.

Transfer details emerge as Aouchiche joins Aberdeen

Adil Aouchiche has joined Aberdeen on loan for the 2025-26 season, with the Dons confirming they possess an option to make the transfer permanent next summer for about £1.5 million.

The 22-year-old French midfielder played 37 games for Sunderland and spent part of the season on loan at Portsmouth.

Aouchiche claimed he feels “wanted” by Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin and is excited about the possibility to compete in Europe. “I want to achieve things here and hopefully make some good memories,” he told me.

Chemsdine Talbi is closing in on a £19.5 million move

Sunderland’s bid for Club Brugge star Chemsdine Talbi is nearing completion, with the 19-year-old winger set to join Wearside for £19.5 million in the coming days. According to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad, Talbi will miss Brugge’s pre-season trip to Glasgow to face Rangers.

The forward is said to be concluding his move to the Stadium of Light after being offered a five-year contract by the club. He has eight goals and five assists last season and was in the 95th percentile for critical passes among wingers outside Europe’s top seven divisions.

According to sources in Belgium, Brugge was anxious to keep the teenager after his outstanding performances in the Champions League last season, particularly against Atalanta, but Sunderland’s €23 million bid (about £19.5 million) proved too powerful to resist.
