Sunderland Monitor Senegalese Forward Sambou Soumano Amid Transfer Interest
Sunderland are reportedly in the running to secure the signature of Senegal international Sambou Soumano, with interest also coming from Premier League rivals Brentford and Burnley. As per a report by Football Insider, the 24-year-old forward has attracted attention following a highly impressive season with Lorient.
Soumano netted 14 goals in just 11 league starts during the last campaign, playing a key role in Lorient’s promotion push back to Ligue 1. His consistent goal-scoring and tireless attacking work have put him on the radar of several English clubs ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Lorient Face Uphill Task to Retain Star Striker
With just one year left on his contract, Lorient face mounting pressure to hold onto their rising star. The French club is reportedly aware of the intensifying interest in Soumano and may struggle to resist a summer move, especially as Premier League sides circle with a chance to bolster their frontline.
His performances have not only impressed scouts in England but have also drawn praise from Senegal national team boss Pape Thiaw. The head coach is believed to view Soumano as a potential equal to current first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson, and a senior international call-up could soon follow.
For Sunderland and Burnley, both newly promoted to the Premier League, Soumano represents the kind of attacking firepower needed to mount a serious survival bid — something no promoted team has achieved in the last three seasons.
Sunderland Also Eyeing Hamed Traoré in Midfield Overhaul
In addition to Soumano, Sunderland are said to be tracking Bournemouth attacking midfielder Hamed Traoré — the brother of Amad Diallo, who previously impressed on loan at the Stadium of Light. According to Corriere Dello Sport, several clubs including Fiorentina, Parma, Sassuolo, and Marseille have joined the race for Traoré’s signature.
The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Auxerre after a stint at Napoli the year before. Bournemouth are reportedly seeking a transfer fee in the region of £13.5 million as they aim to restructure their squad.

Guendouzi Reunited with Le Bris? Sunderland Show Interest
Another intriguing target for Sunderland is former Arsenal and current Lazio midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi. French outlet RMC suggests that Sunderland’s interest is partly influenced by the player’s previous relationship with Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris, who coached him during their time together in Lorient’s youth setup.
Guendouzi featured in 37 matches for Lazio last season and scored once, but the Italian club is thought to be open to sales this summer due to financial constraints. A reunion with Le Bris could prove to be an ideal move for the French midfielder, who still has plenty to offer at the top level.
