Sunderland are ‘playing down speculation’ of making a move for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who is also on Bournemouth’s radar.
Regis Le Bris’ side have brought in a host of new faces in the ongoing transfer window in order to raise the quality of the squad for the challenge of the Premier League. Now with just days remaining in the window, Sunderland are looking to continue to make additions, with central defence an area to beef up.
The Black Cats have signed Omar Alderate from Getafe, but he may not be the only new central defensive face. Sunderland have been interested in signing Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi all summer, and the player is also looking for a move, but no deal has yet been completed.
Sunderland may need to go elsewhere, as Chelsea defender Disasi has been connected with the club. However, according to journalist Kieran Gill, Sunderland are now ‘playing down speculation’ of making an approach or bid for Disasi. If the Black Cats do wish to sign Disasi, it appears they have not yet made a firm offer.

Another Premier League club, Bournemouth, is interested in signing Disasi and has been considering a loan transfer. Enzo Maresca’s intentions do not include Disasi, and it remains to be seen whether he will complete a move away from Stamford Bridge in the coming days.
Sunderland may have other choices, and they have been interested in centre-back Diego Carlos. Fenerbahce is now willing to let Carlos to depart, either permanently or on loan. Sunderland also recently sanctioned the departure of centre-back Nectarios Triantis, who has agreed to join MLS club Minnesota United.
