The Super League attendance figures for round 14 are in, with Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC, and Hull KR all drawing five-figure numbers. In reality, approximately 25,000 fans watched rugby league in Hull on Friday night, with both Hull clubs playing at the same time.
However, Leeds had the most attendance at Headingley, with 14,306 seeing their excellent 36-12 triumph over Warrington Wolves on Saturday evening. Brad Arthur’s team made another statement with the win, and they now appear to be bound for third place as a genuine contender.
Hull FC hosted Castleford Tigers on Friday night, drawing a crowd of 13,376. Despite a large crowd, Castleford triumphed 22-14 at the MKM Stadium, leaving Hull still looking for their first home win of the season.
Over the River Hull, 11,350 people packed Craven Park to watch Hull KR celebrate their Challenge Cup homecoming with a 68-6 thrashing of struggling Catalans Dragons, the most home supporters ever inside the ground. The French side saw Ben Garcia kicked off for fighting and set a new tournament record of 259 minutes without scoring a single point.
Wakefield Trinity’s excellent match versus Leigh Leopards drew 7,147 fans in West Yorkshire. The Leythers were good value for their 24-20 victory, which solidified their hold on fourth place in the Super League.
Meanwhile, 4,182 Huddersfield Giants fans flocked to Dewsbury’s New Crown Flatt stadium, while the John Smith’s Stadium was closed due to a concert. The Giants were heartbroken after leading 18-016 when Jack Farrimond’s last-second try gave Wigan the victory.
There was no attendance at Salford Community Stadium for Salford’s 46-4 defeat to St Helens. The setback left the Red Devils at the bottom of the standings, with Sam Stone refusing to play and now ready to leave the club as its difficulties continue.
