Swansea City make it five in a row at QPR as Sheehan strengthens grip on top job

Swansea City make it five in a row at QPR as Sheehan strengthens grip on top job.

Swansea City defeated QPR 2-1 in west London for their fifth consecutive Championship victory.

Swansea City made it five Championship wins in a row by defeating QPR 2-1, boosting Alan Sheehan’s chances of being named permanent manager.

Sheehan has now presided over seven victories and only two defeats in 11 games since taking over as caretaker manager following Luke Williams’ dismissal in February.

It would have been five clean sheets in a row if Rangers’ first effort on goal, scored by Karamoko Dembele, had not been successful. Subscribe to our Swansea City newsletter here.

Swansea took the lead with an own goal by Morgan Fox in the 29th minute, and Harry Darling doubled the score early in the second half. The Welsh team was just six points above the drop zone just over a month ago.

They will finish the season much closer to the play-offs than the relegation places, as they are currently only six points behind the top six.

Swans took the lead when Josh Tymon took possession and was allowed to surge into the QPR half on the left-hand side, sending the ball into the box, where Fox attempted to stop it from reaching Liam Cullen but inadvertently shinned it into his own goal.

Fox, who was initially named as a substitute, only appeared because he replaced Jonathan Varane in the starting lineup after the Frenchman pulled up during the pre-match warm-up. Sign up to Swansea City’s WhatsApp service to receive breaking news and top stories directly to your phone.

With his team failing to pose a goal threat, Rangers manager Marti Cifuentes brought on striker Michael Frey after 53 minutes in an attempt to get back into the game.

However, two minutes later, Darling scored his third goal in six games, doubling the Swans’ lead.

Eom Ji-sung tricked his way past Jimmy Dunne on the left side of the box and fired towards goal, where Cullen bundled it in from a few yards out.

Dembele, one of the visitors’ later substitutes, brought them back into the game with a goal after 72 minutes.

Dembele will sprint in from the right and fire past custodian Lawrence Vigouroux at his near post.

However, the Hoops were unable to equalise, and Eom missed a chance to add a third for Swansea when he headed Ronald’s cross wide of the goal.
