Swindon Town and Bromley face Barrow transfer battle to sign clinical star

League Two clubs are interested in signing non-league sensation Jake Tabor following his excellent spell at Amersham Town.

Swindon Town have inquired about taking Tabor on trial this summer, and Bromley are also apparently interested in bringing the striker to Hayes Lane, but Barrow is the only team that has offered him a contract at this time, according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon.

According to The Non League Football Paper, the prolific forward has been the highest goalscorer in English football for the last two seasons, putting him on the radar of clubs eager to give him the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities in the EFL.

Following the resignation of manager Stuart Atkins after the team failed to gain promotion last season, Amersham agreed to cancel Tabor’s contract signed earlier this year, allowing any interested parties to contact him for a free transfer.

According to Nixon’s claim, Barrow has done exactly that, so if Swindon and Bromley want him this summer, they must act now.

Tabor could have a decision to make

As things stand, Barrow appears to be Tabor’s most likely destination, having offered him a contract, although he may still have to make a decision if either of the other interested teams attempts to arrange a deal of their own.

Barrow finished 16th in the fourth division last season, but after going seven games unbeaten, Andy Whing will seek to maintain that momentum into his first full season in command at Holker Street.

Only one team ended above the Bluebirds in the table scored less goals, therefore Tabor may see an opportunity to make a significant difference next season with his goal-scoring skills.

Swindon finished 12th last season under Ian Holloway, who had a significant beneficial impact on the Robins since his arrival in October.

Given that they were in danger of relegation at the time of Holloway’s arrival, Swindon’s mid-table finish may offer Tabor reason to feel they are in for a successful season if the club does try to acquire his services.

Bromley had a great first season in the EFL last season, finishing 11th, four points behind the play-offs.

Michael Cheek won the Golden Boot in League Two with 25 league goals, but as Football League World exclusively disclosed, the 33-year-old is being pursued by League One club Wigan Athletic. If the veteran leaves the Ravens, Tabor may be tempted to try to become Bromley’s main man up front as the team looks to maintain their development.

Matty Stevens Wimbledon 17

Tabor knows where the back of the net is

Whichever club succeeds to sign Tabor this summer will have acquired a player who has demonstrated his ability to find the back of the goal.

The three clubs said to be interested in Tabor have a track record of success with non-league players, with Barrow and Bromley both adapting well following their promotions from the National League in recent years, and Swindon seeing what can happen when a lower-level signing pays off with Charlie Austin.

It will be intriguing to see where Tabor ends up and how he performs in the EFL next season, although Swindon and Bromley will now compete to get him after Barrow made a contract offer.
