Teenager Apprehended After Shots Fired in Chichester as Police Increase Stop and Search Operations

Following reports of shots fired in Chichester, a teenager has been apprehended, prompting police to increase their stop and search operations across the area.

The incident comes amid a spate of violence over the weekend, with police in Luton also granted enhanced powers to stop and search individuals after bullets were fired during an armed altercation involving around 20 people in the Moakes neighbourhood at approximately 4:50pm on Friday, March 28.

Expanded search powers have been put in place for the Marsh Farm, Hockwell Ring, and Lewsey Farm areas. This includes Barton Road, Sundon Road, Woodside Link, Poynters Road, Leagrave High Street, Bramingham Road, Icknield Way, and all surrounding roads and public spaces. The special order will remain active until 6:35pm on Monday, March 31, but authorities have said it may be extended as investigations continue.

A teenage male, who was treated for suspected stab wounds, has been detained on suspicion of violent disorder. In a separate development, another teenage male was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after investigators found a vehicle had been shot at in Sylam Close. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Police have identified the suspects as a group of around 20 men and boys, aged between 16 and 25, believed to be of Black ethnicity. Witnesses reported they were dressed in black clothing, balaclavas, and gloves, with some riding e-bikes.

Detective Inspector Adam Butt of Bedfordshire Police said:

*”We are following multiple lines of enquiry to piece together the events of this incident and are keen to hear from anyone with information, doorbell, or dashcam footage, particularly in the Vadis Close, Sylam Close, and the Moakes areas, that could support our investigation.”*

“Officers have increased their patrols in the area to help reassure residents and deter further activity,” he added.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
