‘The lads need to have the appetite to learn’ – Millwall boss on Femi Azeez’s finish after training video.

ALEX Neil praised his players’ “attitude and application” following their 3-0 friendly victory over AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane on Tuesday evening.
Femi Azeez and Jack Howland scored in the first half against Johnnie Jackson’s League Two 2024-25 play-off winners, with Mihailo Ivanovic adding the third after the break.
Azeez finished low into the bottom corner. Millwall posted footage from their pre-season training camp in Spain showing Azeez working on those types of finishes with first-team coach David Livermore and Neil.
Neil praised his players for their willingness to put in the extra effort. “I think that’s quite common for a lot of the lads, at one stage or another we’ll do individual drills for them that we feel is specific to their position,” Neil shared with News At Den.
“Whether it’s the striker backing in, turning, and attempting to link the game, or Femi combining and getting down the sides to score.
“It’s interesting; I know the drill you’re referring to; his goal is very similar to one of the drills; he cuts back inside with his left foot and places it in the far corner.
“Every little bit helps. I’m not saying he scored the goal because we practiced with him. But certainly, our job is to try to improve the players’ understanding and technique, and I believe we’re making good progress in that regard. “But it’s a 50/50 thing.
We can’t do it alone; the lads must be willing to learn, improve, and train hard. “They certainly have that. We have absolutely no problems with attitude or application.
The lads are great.” Millwall hope to involve absentees such as Zak Sturge, Josh Coburn, Ra’ees Bangura-Williams and Billy Mitchell, Joe Bryan and Camiel Neghli in a training session on Tuesday before finalising their squad for the sold-out friendly against Bromley at Hayes Lane on Saturday.
