Paul Wellens, the manager of St Helens, acknowledges that his pregame remarks ahead of Saturday’s meeting included a reference to Hull FC’s poor home record. The Saints defeated Hull 13–6, winning their fourth consecutive game at the MKM Stadium with to two tries from Kyle Feldt and a drop goal from Jonny Lomax.
However, the outcome prolonged Hull’s winless streak at home, which now stands at 12 months. On July 20, 2024, the Black and Whites defeated Wigan Warriors 24–22 at home in East Yorkshire, their most recent victory.
With the exception of the March tie with the Leigh Leopards, Hull has played 12 games at the MKM Stadium since then and lost 11. All ten of their victories have been away from home, and seven of the twelve have occurred this season, including the Challenge Cup loss to Hull KR.
This record is starting to become a serious problem for the Black and Whites, and because the MKM has hosted seven of their previous ten games, John Cartwright’s team has to break it as soon as possible. Their next chance to do so is against Wakefield Trinity on Thursday.
As the Black and Whites continue to develop as a team, Wellens is optimistic that they will end their losing run soon. Following Saturday’s game, he reserved plaudits for Hull as a team.
The Saints manager acknowledges, however, that he pushed his squad to avoid becoming the one the Black and Whites lose to.

According to the St Helens Star, Wellens stated during Hull’s run, “I didn’t know that until 48 hours before the game and was thinking why have you told me that.”
