The PFA send damning message to Sheffield Wednesday after Dejphon Chansiri’s latest mishap
Sheffield Wednesday are a strong contender to be the worst-run club in the top four tiers of English football.
After a solid 12th-place finish in the Championship under Danny Rohl, the weeks following the season have been disastrous for the Owls.
The embargo imposed on Wednesday is a three-window transfer restriction, in which they can only sign players if there is no fee involved.
John West and the TUG have even distanced themselves from Chansiri after his biggest mishap to date. So, with the staff still waiting to be paid, the PFA have reacted to the situation.

PFA send damning message to Sheffield Wednesday
The Sheffield Wednesday staff have taken up ’emergency funding’ to alleviate the stress of not receiving their wages in May.
But with a transfer embargo imposed and a points deduction on the horizon, fans are worried that Wednesday are on a slippery slope towards the bottom.
It’s been suggested by one finance expert that administration would be the ‘best outcome’ for Sheffield Wednesday, as it would enable the EFL to intervene and secure a new level of investment or ownership that stabilises the club in the medium term.
As a result of their financial problems and fans fearing the worst about their future, the PFA have issued a statement which reads: “As the professional players’ union, we have now been speaking to members at Sheffield Wednesday over many months regarding repeated delays in the payment of salaries.
“Ultimately players and staff are like any other group of employees – they should be able to expect their wages to be paid on time and for the terms of their contracts to be met by their employers.
“When that does not happen it has a significant impact on the professional and personal lives of players, staff, and their families.
“The uncertainty it causes is made worse when there appears to be a lack of clear communication regarding the reason these issues are occurring and when payments can be expected.”
“Continued and ongoing delays to player and staff wages are unacceptable and need to be addressed without further delay. We will be continuing to support our members at Sheffield Wednesday until this situation is properly resolved.”
How the transfer embargo impacts Sheffield Wednesday
An embargo imposed on the Owls means they cannot spend any fees during the transfer window, and that also applies to loan players.
Sheffield Wednesday can also only name a maximum number of 23 players in their first-team squad, which emphasises the importance of utilising the youth system, as clubs don’t need to register anyone under the age of 21.
Pierce Charles has committed his future to Sheffield Wednesday, and as he’s still 19-years-old, the Yorkshire club won’t need to register him ahead of next season.
That is one positive to emerge from what is a bleak situation, and one that has no simple resolution.
