Clarke and Philogene, who are only 23 and 24 years old, respectively, have the potential to be key members of a Premier League team in the future, but the 2024–2025 season didn’t go as planned.
Although Clarke never played in the Premier League at Tottenham, he started just 12 of his 32 games in his first attempt at the top division with Ipswich and failed to score.
With just two starts in the first half of the previous season’s Premier League campaign, Philogene was a bit-part player at Aston Villa. Although he played more minutes at Ipswich, Kieran McKenna’s team was on the verge of relegation, and the 23-year-old spent the season in the treatment room following an MCL injury sustained against Chelsea.

Saints would have wanted Ings to join Wrexham instead
In contrast to what Southampton supporters had been anticipating for a month, Ings is reportedly discussing a possible arrival from Middlesbrough, according to a report from Sky Sports.
A number of players, including Jay Rodriguez and Ben Forster, have been visiting the Premier League as a renowned veteran, demonstrating Wrexham’s deep regard for Ings. By doing the same, Ings may have faced a less demanding opponent and improved his chances of finishing in the top half of the standings in his first campaign.
Depending on how much his fitness permitted, Ings might have gone from being a bit-part player to a senior dressing room figure in the ensuing years. However, the Englishman sees a Middlesbrough opportunity where a playoff spot is the ultimate goal for both himself and his future professional endeavors.
It’s unlikely that Ings will push them into the top ten either, especially as Boro will think about selling former Saints target Rav Van den Berg.
Perhaps Ings wants to get more touches on the ball these days since he may have overperformed at West Ham compared to other teams without making a significant contribution to the cause. Let’s observe the outcome of that.
