‘There’s an excitement about Bradford City – we can’t exclude the owner from that’

STEFAN Rupp kept a low profile during City’s friendly in Austria, content to observe from a bank behind the dugout.

However, he has been more open about his desire for their return to League One.

The owner is scheduled to attend Valley Parade’s season-opener against Wycombe a week from Saturday.

After increasing Graham Alexander’s budget, Rupp is certain that a first promotion in his nine-year tenure will serve as a springboard for another great campaign at the next level.

The City manager embraces Rupp’s sense of expectation as he moves into the third tier. Alexander stated, “I want us all to be optimistic and positive about the season.”

It does not cause us to misjudge the task of reaching a greater level. “We still recognize how difficult that will be. But I don’t believe in approaching anything in a negative or unambitious manner.

“We want people to feel positive and energized. Bradford City, in my opinion, elicits excitement.

“We can’t exclude the owner, especially if he’s excited. I know I am, as do my players and staff, and I’m sure the fans are, based on what happened the other night.

“Professional football is a demanding and challenging sport. It does not always work out in your favor.

“It’s about resilience, and when you have moments of success like we did last year, it keeps you going for years.

You’re looking for the next high, as I’m sure Stefan and everyone else at Bradford City are.

“It’s still a really tough challenge in front of us but I believe we’ll be ready for it.”

Rupp traveled from Munich on Friday to watch City defeat Austrian fourth-division club SK Vorwärts Steyr 7-1 at the conclusion of their Obertraun training camp.

Alexander continued, “I had a nice conversation with Stefan and his family afterwards. He came last year as well and said he would come again.

“It was great to meet him because it was his first time seeing the new guys and seeing how the club was coming together.

It’s not just about the newcomers, but also about the players who were with us last season, as well as the chemistry and relationships that developed.

“I think he will be over for the first game of the season as well, so that will be good.”
