Sheffield United have looked ‘awful’ so far this season, EFL pundit George Elek has said.
Sheffield United hired Ruben Selles as their head coach in June after he was fired by rival Championship club Hull City. SUFC chose the former Southampton and Reading manager to replace Chris Wilder, but he has yet to make an impression at Bramall Lane.
The Blades have lost their opening two league games, against Bristol City at home and Swansea City away. They were also eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Birmingham City.
Elek stated on the Not The Top 20 podcast on YouTube: “They look awful. They have been outclassed in the Carabao Cup by Birmingham. They couldn’t really get a kick. They’ve lost two games to Bristol City and Swansea. Neither of their performances either side of their defeat (to Birmingham) suggested too much.”
Sheffield United are looking to add some new players before the transfer window closes. They have till the deadline of Monday, September 1st to acquire some reinforcements.
Selles said last week, according to The Star: “I think our process has not been good enough; that I think is obvious. In the beginning we talked about reinforcement with three players and now, with Kieffer [Moore] and Anel [Ahmedhodzic] gone, that is five.”
Sheffield United summer so far
Sunderland beat Sheffield United in the play-off final in May. SUFC fell 2-1 at Wembley Stadium, missing out on promotion to the Premier League.
The Blades then made the daring decision to cut ways with the popular Wilder over the summer. They decided to make a change and enlisted Selles. Last season, Selles kept Hull City in the league on goal difference on the penultimate day. However, the Tigers decided to part ways with the Spaniard and instead hire Sergej Jakirovic.

So far, Sheffield United has used the market to sign Louie Barry and Tyler Bindon. They do, however, require additional personnel for their squad.
What now for Sheffield United?
Sheffield United return to action this weekend, hosting Millwall. Middlesbrough defeated SUFC’s previous opponents 3-0 at The Den.
The Blades need to get their season back on track with three points against the Lions. If not, Selles will under even more pressure after only three league games.
Their hierarchy has placed their necks on the line by appointing him, and Selles will have enormous shoes to fill after Wilder leaves. It hasn’t gone as planned for him yet, but he will remain calm as he works to bring his new squad to success.
