Jamie McCart will be out for the next three months, which is a blow to Heart of Midlothian‘s injury situation.
During the team’s preseason training camp in Spain last week, the centre-back sustained an injury at the conclusion of the friendly match against St Mirren, which ended in a 1-1 tie.
He went back on Friday to have a scan done by the club, and on Saturday, the findings were obtained.
Despite making an impression on Derek McInnes over the first two weeks of preseason, McCart will now miss the season’s opening games.
When Dunfermline Athletic visits Tynecastle Park on Saturday for the Premier Sports Cup group stage, he will be one of three players missing the season opener.
It will be Derek McInnes’ first competitive game as the new head coach of Hearts.
But because both Yan Dhanda and newcomer Stuart Findlay are suspended, he won’t be able to rely on them.
During Kilmarnock’s League Cup loss against Motherwell in extra time last season, Findlay was sent off with two yellow cards. The punishment for a red card infraction resulting from two warnings takes effect right away in the competition’s next game.
Dhanda was given a two-game suspension for severe foul play after receiving a red card against Kilmarnock in the season finale. After he was first given the free kick, his foul on new teammate Findlay was examined by VAR.
The punishment is effective immediately for the following two games, regardless of competition, because it was for significant foul play.
