Three signings Millwall must make before deadline day including Chelsea outcast and Stoke City hijack
Millwall are our dark horses for promotion this season, but Alex Neil could really get his squad to the next level if he lands these three signings before deadline day.
After an underwhelming first half of the season in 2024/25, Millwall parted ways with club icon Neil Harris and appointed Alex Neil.
From there, the Lions put together an impressive run and ended up just outside the play-offs come the end of the season.
In our 2025/26 Championship preview we tipped Millwall to be up there battling for a play-off spot again, but signing three more top quality players could really give Neil the edge he needs.
We have already suggested Alfie Gilchrist would be a dream addition for Millwall this summer, and we’re not about to change our mind on that one.
The Chelsea full-back has bags of experience at this level, has that grit and fire that Millwall love in a defender, and would only cost an initial £1.5m now according to recent reports.
Middlesbrough wanted Gilchrist previously, as did Coventry City and Derby County, but no one has made the decisive move yet. Time for Millwall to swoop and get it done.
Tomas Rigo
This is a player who was previously linked with Ipswich Town when they were in the Premier League. Tomas Rigo has also been compared to Marek Hamsik, which is pretty high praise if you ask us.
Most recently, it seemed Stoke City would sign Rigo for around £3m, which is a bargain. That deal still hasn’t gone through, though, and he’s a player Millwall should be all over.
A dynamic, creative midfielder with tonnes of potential, Rigo would add a touch of flair to a very pragmatic Millwall side and could be a game-changer if he’s given the chance to provide for the likes of Josh Coburn and Mihailo Ivanovic.
Ben Brereton Diaz
This one would be a bit of a risky one, but Millwall need strength in depth out wide. With Alfie Doughty on the left, bringing in someone like Ben Brereton Diaz on the right would make the Lions a real attacking threat from all angles.
Of course, Brereton Diaz does have injury issues and he wasn’t exactly prolific for Sheffield United while on loan there last season (he scored four goals in 17 games for the Blades).
But, what the Chilean does offer is experience and a lot of versatility. If Millwall can get him on loan from Southampton, he would definitely make the squad stronger.
