Top flight clubs hold talks with Josh Sargent but one stumbling block remains, Norwich City’s stance is firm
As clubs start negotiating with the USMNT international, Norwich City has made one thing very plain in relation to the Josh Sargent story.
With new manager Liam Manning taking over ahead of the 2024–25 Championship season, Norwich City has made the decision to take a different approach.
Taking over a Norwich City team that has lost Borja Sainz to Porto will be a tough task for Manning.
Sainz was a contributing factor in the Canaries’ outstanding goal-scoring performance last season, as he finished as the team’s leading scorer.
Josh Sargent, a 25-year-old who scored 15 goals and provided five assists for Norwich previous season, was also a key player. He was always going to draw clubs this summer after a successful year, but Norwich’s one requirement might put off interest.
Norwich City remain firm with Josh Sargent’s valuation as Burnley and Wolfsburg swarm
EFL Analysis exclusively disclosed last week that Norwich had set an asking price of £18 million for Sargent. However, that number would be the total amount that any club would have to pay, including any add-ons.
Journalist Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports has now supported it, stating that Burnley of the Premier League and Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga are currently in negotiations to sign Sargent from the Canaries.
However, neither club has yet to match Norwich City’s valuation, which Joseph reports to be ‘around £20m’.
Norwich must not back down from their valuation for Josh Sargent

Mathias Kvistgaarden was acquired by Norwich City for a hefty price tag, and it is hoped that his incredible goal-scoring ability would translate into Championship games. However, Liam Manning will not want to put all of that pressure on him.
Sargent may change a number of aspects of the first team team if the Canaries can get £20 million for him. Norwich should expect a premium price because, given the level of clubs vying for the USMNT international, the amount is not unaffordable for them.
Given their financial status, Norwich City doesn’t really need to sell its best players, and they shouldn’t ever compromise on their asking price.
