Tottenham: Frank ‘done’ deal confirmed with Brentford ‘set to release’ Postecoglou’s ‘replacement’

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has verified Tottenham Hotspur’s cost for Thomas Frank, with Brentford’set to release’ the head coach. Spurs are looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Ange Postecoglou last week.

Postecoglou’s departure from Tottenham was long overdue, as he faced intense scrutiny throughout the 2024/25 season, as his team fell from fifth to 17th in the Premier League.

Tottenham were hampered by injuries, with several key players missing time, yet their performances were far from adequate, culminating in 22 losses out of 38 Premier League games. Tottenham’s season finished on a bright note, with Postecoglou helping them end their trophy drought by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Nonetheless, it was claimed prior to the final that he would be fired’regardless’ of the outcome of the Europa League, and his unavoidable departure was confirmed last week.

Spurs have been connected with Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola, and Marco Silva, but Frank has emerged as the frontrunner to succeed Postecoglou, and the Big Six club has moved rapidly to complete a deal. On Monday, a source stated that Frank had ‘accepted’ to join Spurs, who were still in talks with Brentford over a compensation payment.

Frank’s contract has a £10 million release clause, and Tottenham have been unable to negotiate a lesser sum with Brentford, with Romano stating on Tuesday morning that the fee is’set’ to be paid.

“Agreement reached with the management on contract terms and staff; Brentford ready to release Frank for a fee in the region of £10 million. “He is Ange Postecoglou’s replacement.” Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara has outlined why he believes Frank would be a good fit for his former club. “It’s time for Spurs to move on from Ange Postecoglou,” O’Hara told reporters.

“He has lost 22 Premier League games, and this season has been a disaster. I get that he won the Europa League, which was a watershed event for the football club, but let’s be honest: the game was dreadful, the performance was subpar, and Manchester United were a nightmare opponent. I believe Daniel Levy is truly considering getting rid of him and exploring other options.

“I would check into Thomas Frank or Andoni Iraola. Frank has been in the Premier League for a long time, and he has done an excellent job with Brentford on a limited budget. Does he deserve a chance at one of the ‘Big Six’ clubs? I think he probably does.

“But if you’re going big, Levy should consider Xavi Hernandez or Simone Inzaghi – Inter Milan were humiliated in the Champions League final. Spurs have had similar managers in the past, including Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

There are options available, and Spurs must recognise that they are a major football club, competing in the Champions League next season, with a UEFA Super Cup to contend for and the possibility to progress the next year. Is Ange the man to lead them forward? “I do not think so.”
