
Tragedy as person found dead at Adlington station with train services cancelled and delayed.
National Rail says emergency services are currently working at the scene
A person has been tragically discovered dead at a Lancashire train station, police have confirmed.
At 9.10am on April 29, emergency services responded to Adlington station, located between Bolton and Chorley. According to British Transport Police (BTP), a person died at the scene, and the incident is not considered suspicious.
Services between Bolton and Preston were disrupted, with trains being cancelled and delayed for up to an hour. Pictures from the scene show emergency personnel responding to the incident, including fire crews and police.
The issue is affecting Northern services from Manchester Airport to Blackpool North, Barrow-in-Furness, and Windermere, via Bolton and Manchester city centre. According to the M.E.N, this also affects TransPennine Express services from Manchester Airport to Scotland via Manchester city centre.
A BTP spokesperson stated, “Officers and paramedics responded, but a person was pronounced dead on the scene.” The incident is not being investigated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the corner.
In an initial statement, a National Rail spokesperson said: “The emergency services are responding to an incident between Bolton and Preston. While the emergency services work, all lines between these stations are closed.
“Trains between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, or rescheduled. “Disruption is expected until 11:30.”
An update issued shortly before 11 a.m. stated: “The emergency services have completed their work between Bolton and Preston, allowing all lines to reopen between these stations.” Trains operating between these stations may continue to be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, revised, or diverted.
