Tributes Paid to Elderly Couple Who Died in House Fire

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to Stan and Roma Rickman, an elderly couple who tragically lost their lives in a house fire in Hampshire earlier this week.

Stan, aged 91, and Roma, aged 88, were found deceased following a blaze at their home on Monday, April 14. Emergency services were called to the scene in the early hours, but despite the best efforts of firefighters and paramedics, the couple could not be saved.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed their identities on Friday and said that an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, although there are currently no suspicious circumstances.

Family members, friends, and local residents have described Stan and Roma as a “kind and devoted couple” who were well known and deeply loved within the community.

In a statement released through the police, the Rickman family said:
“Stan and Roma were inseparable in life, and it is fitting, though deeply heartbreaking, that they were together at the end. They shared over 60 years of marriage and filled those decades with love, laughter, and compassion for everyone they met.”

The couple had lived in the same house for more than 40 years and were described by neighbours as pillars of the local area.

Samantha Davis, a neighbour who had known the Rickmans for two decades, said:
“They were just the loveliest people. Stan would always wave from the window, and Roma never missed a chance to stop and chat when out for a walk. It’s such a terrible loss for the street and the whole community.”

The local parish church will hold a memorial service in their honour this Sunday. Reverend Michael Ellis, who knew the couple personally, said:
“Stan and Roma lived their lives with quiet dignity and grace. They were regulars at our Sunday services and always had a kind word for everyone. We will miss them dearly, but we take comfort in the love they shared and the legacy they leave behind.”

Floral tributes have been laid outside the couple’s home, along with heartfelt messages from friends and neighbours. One note read: “Together in life and now together in heaven. You will be missed more than words can say.”

Fire crews who attended the scene have also paid tribute. Station Commander Helen Murphy of Hampshire Fire and Rescue said:
“It is always incredibly hard when lives are lost, especially in such devastating circumstances. Our thoughts remain with the Rickman family and everyone who knew Stan and Roma. Our crews will be offering support to the community in the days ahead.”

The couple leave behind two children, four grandchildren, and countless friends whose lives they touched. Their family has asked for privacy as they grieve, and expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support.

Hampshire Constabulary said they will continue to work with fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire. A file is being prepared for the coroner.
