Two Arrested as Armed Police Storm Blackburn Street

A quiet residential area in Blackburn was thrown into chaos yesterday after armed police dramatically stormed a property, resulting in the arrest of two individuals. The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, left residents shocked and on edge as dozens of officers descended on the street.

Eyewitnesses described the moment as “something out of a film” when police, clad in full tactical gear and carrying firearms, surrounded a terraced house on Whalley Range around 2:30pm. Several police vehicles, including vans and unmarked cars, blocked off the road while officers took up positions.

“It was absolutely dramatic,” said one resident, who asked not to be named. “One minute it was quiet, the next minute the whole street was swarming with armed police. They were shouting commands and pointing their guns at the house. It was terrifying to watch.”

Footage shared on social media showed officers shouting for occupants to exit the house with their hands in the air. Within minutes, two individuals were led from the property in handcuffs. Police have since confirmed that both are now in custody.

Lancashire Constabulary issued a statement shortly after the operation, confirming that armed officers had executed a pre-planned warrant in connection with an ongoing investigation.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that armed officers attended an address in the Whalley Range area of Blackburn today as part of a pre-planned operation. Two individuals were arrested at the scene. There is no wider threat to the public, and we would like to thank local residents for their patience and cooperation.”

The nature of the investigation remains undisclosed, though police have not ruled out the possibility of serious criminal activity. Some local residents speculated that the arrests could be connected to drugs or firearms, but officers have yet to confirm any specific charges.

Despite the alarming presence of armed units, no injuries were reported, and there was no indication that any shots were fired during the incident.

A local shopkeeper said the scene left many in the community shaken. “You don’t expect to see that kind of thing on your doorstep. The officers were so professional, but it was still really unsettling. People were watching from their windows and recording it—it’s all anyone’s been talking about.”

Forensic officers were later seen entering the property, while uniformed officers remained at the scene well into the evening, conducting door-to-door enquiries and securing the area.

Blackburn MP Kate Hollern responded to the news by urging calm and praising the swift action by police. “While any armed police presence is concerning, it’s reassuring to see our police services acting swiftly and decisively to keep our communities safe,” she said.

Lancashire Police have encouraged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, adding that the investigation remains active.

As the community processes the events, many are left questioning what prompted such a forceful response—and what will come next in the unfolding story.
