“Tyrese Fornah Opens up about his Transfer Following Derby County Departure to his new Club
After leaving Derby County, Tyrese Fornah said he received “quite a lot of interest” this summer.
After leaving Pride Park, the midfield player has agreed to a three-year deal with Northampton Town, where he will play under former Nottingham County manager Kevin Nolan.
After joining the team from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023, Fornah was unable to make a name for himself at Pride Park.
He declared his intention to leave Derby last summer and joined Salford City, where his performances left an impression.
Derby eventually let him go, but he claimed that many clubs were interested in signing him.
“This summer, there was a lot of interest in me,” Fornah remarked. I spent a lot of time to consider my options because, in addition to becoming a free agent, this is a significant chapter in my career and my next move. I’m also expecting a child.

“I feel like Northampton would be the best fit for me and my family out of all the schools I was considering, because it’s a significant period in my life and I want to feel settled. I also want to play, grow, and improve on the field. I’m glad to be present.
“Having a three-year contract is nice, but I don’t see it as an opportunity; instead, I see it as fate and destiny, and I just need to show people what I can do on the field.”
Fornah added that one of the main reasons he moved to the Cobblers was to play for Nolan and technical director Colin Calderwood.
“The manager and Colin Calderwood were another significant factor,” Fornah continued. “I believe I’m prepared for the next phase of my growth, which involves adding goals and becoming a more dangerous player in the closing third.
“I’ve watched his career closely because the manager has clearly been there and done it at the highest level. He also played for West Ham, which is close to where I’m from, so that’s the kind of player I want to be, but I also want to keep those aspects of my game that come naturally to me.”
