Stoke City’s rumoured move for Everton striker Youssef Chermiti has been played down, with a fresh update from the Liverpool Echo clarifying that a deal is not close to being agreed at this stage.

 

Reports had surfaced linking the Portuguese forward with a summer switch to the Bet365 Stadium, sparking excitement among some Stoke fans eager to see new attacking reinforcements arrive. Chermiti, 20, is highly rated at Goodison Park, though he found game time limited in the Premier League last season, making just a handful of appearances as a substitute.

 

The *Liverpool Echo*, however, has now provided clarity on the situation, stating that while there has been interest in the player from Championship sides — Stoke among them — nothing is currently advanced. Stoke are not understood to be close to sealing any agreement with either Chermiti or Everton, and other options remain on the club’s radar as they look to bolster their attacking department.

 

Stoke City are expected to be active in the summer window following another underwhelming campaign. The Potters narrowly avoided relegation to League One last term and have struggled for consistency since their 2018 relegation from the top flight. While several experienced heads are set to leave the club this summer, including Tyrese Campbell and Josh Laurent, the focus is firmly on rejuvenation — with an emphasis on bringing in dynamic, hungry players capable of sparking a turnaround in fortunes.

 

A striker is high on Stoke’s list of priorities. The team ended the 2024/25 season as one of the lowest scorers in the division, and their lack of firepower proved costly in many tight encounters. Chermiti, despite his limited action at Everton, fits the profile of a forward who could grow into a key figure if given the platform to play regularly. He joined the Toffees from Sporting CP in 2023 and remains a player with promise, though his pathway to first-team football on Merseyside is currently blocked by more senior options.

 

With Everton under financial pressure to balance the books, a loan exit or permanent sale of fringe players like Chermiti is not out of the question. Stoke’s interest, therefore, is credible — but fans hoping for a quick announcement may need to remain patient as the transfer window unfolds.

 

For now, the update from Merseyside casts doubt over any imminent arrival. Stoke’s recruitment team, led by sporting director Ricky Martin, will continue assessing multiple targets as they attempt to give manager Steven Schumacher the tools required for a top-half push next season.
