update on Murder investigation launched after woman shot dead in Blackburn
After a 19-year-old woman dies from what seems to be a gunshot wound, police are looking for witnesses.
Police have launched a murder investigation after a lady in Blackburn died on Sunday from what seems to be a
gunshot wound.
Shortly after 3 p.m., police were summoned to King Street in the town centre after hearing gunshots and a woman
who was not responding.
After being transported to the hospital, the woman—who was thought to be a 19-year-old Blackburn resident—died.
Police presently assume the cause of death was a gunshot wound, but a postmortem will be conducted later.
It was reported that a car, thought to be a light-coloured or metallic green Toyota Avensis, was seen leaving the
the car to contact them.
“This is a really shocking and senseless killing, which has robbed a young woman of her life,” said Lancashire police
DCI Jonathan Holmes.
“We think the victim was a young woman from the neighbourhood, even if her identity has not yet been officially
confirmed.
“Now that her family has learnt of her passing, they are naturally quite upset. We are committed to finding the
culprits, and we have started an inquiry. To help us identify the perpetrator or criminals, we are requesting the
public’s assistance.
He went on to say: “We are certain that someone, or a number of people, out there know what happened, and we
know that King Street will have been busy at the time of the incident.”
“We would reassure them that our top priority right now is to find out what happened, even though we understand
that people may be reluctant to come forward during this time, especially if they have not been following the
government guidelines about staying at home.”
Holmes called for anyone who has video or information about the event to come forward. He claimed more police
had been sent into the area, including officers with guns.
Police want anyone with information to call 101 and reference log number 817 of May 17. Alternatively,
Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously at 0800 555 111.
