VAN DEN BELT ARRIVES AS FC TWENTE’S FIRST SUMMER SIGNING.

FC Twente has announced the arrival of Thomas van den Belt.

The 23-year-old midfielder joins from Feyenoord and has signed a four-year contract with De Grolsch Veste. The Tukkers welcome the addition of the Zwolle native to their midfield, following the departures of Michal Sadílek (Slavia Prague) and top scorer Sem Steijn (Feyenoord) earlier this summer. He is Twente’s first window addition, having agreed to terms with Feyenoord a few weeks ago. Van den Belt openly struggled to make an effect in Rotterdam, prompting a move away after a successful loan spell in the Spanish second level.

“Last season, I had a successful season in Spain with Castellón, and FC Twente recently came forward again. “The decision wasn’t that difficult,” Van den Belt said on the club’s website. “FC Twente is a fantastic club, and I wanted to move on swiftly. That boosted my confidence. I am well familiar with FC Twente. When my father worked here (as financial director), I was a frequent visitor. It’s a club with a stunning stadium and devoted fans. Overall, this is a very positive step. Technical director Jan Streuer believes Twente will have a lot of fun with Van den Belt, who was previously on the club’s radar when at PEC Zwolle.

“He is a versatile midfielder with both attacking and defensive abilities. We tried to get Thomas to FC Twente two years ago, but he selected Feyenoord instead. Last season, we continued to monitor Thomas in Spain, and he excelled at Castellón, where he was a key player.”
