Viessmann boilers installed at Blackburn Rovers FC
Two new commercial boilers from Viessmann Climate Solutions have been added to Blackburn Rovers FC’s under-pitch heating system.
Proctor Process Plant installed the high-efficiency 800 kW Viessmann Vitocrossal 200 Type CRU boilers.
Sports venues with grass fields employ under-soil heating to warm the pitch’s underbelly and shield it from inclement weather like snow and ice. In 1994, Blackburn Rovers made the first installation of subsurface heating at their Ewood Park stadium.
According to Viessmann, new parts for the boiler from the 1990s were becoming outdated. The customer needed a new heat generator in order to decrease emissions, boost reliability, and lower operating expenses and fuel consumption.
A statement from the firm claims that the Vitocrossal range’s MatriX-Disk burner has a modulation range of 1:6 and operates quietly. It also mentioned a stainless steel Inox-Crossal heat exchanger that resists corrosion.
A specialized design flue system, a hydraulic separator with air and dirt separation, four TPE high efficiency pumps, prefabricated DN150 welded distribution header pipes, water treatment equipment, and thermal insulation were among the additional system components added as part of the Blackburn Rovers project.
According to the statement, the extensive system of plastic under-pitch pipes receives 70m3 of warm water every hour from the heating system. A custom plantroom control panel that was created with input from the groundskeeper at Blackburn Rovers operates the system. The panel offers BMS compatibility, gas leak detection, and pump and cascade boiler control.
“We jumped at the chance to deliver this project for Blackburn Rovers, in partnership with Viessmann Climate Solutions,” stated Nathan Proctor, director of Proctor Plant Process. Because we had chosen Vitocrossal boilers for larger industrial applications, including canning facilities, where we provide process water solutions that call for heating water to extremely precise temperature levels, we were already familiar with the brand.
For heating beneath the ground, the Vitocrossal boiler is ideal. The club will have the dependability it needs to remove snow and ice thanks to this highly efficient modulating unit, which operates within precise temperature ranges to prevent shock and damage to the grass.
“It was comforting to bring our new Viessmann boilers into Ewood Park in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign, supported by the knowledge and expertise provided by Proctor Plant Process and the team,” Lynsey Talbot, head of operations at Blackburn Rovers Football Club, added. “We had nursed our old system through the last couple of winters.” The installation went quickly and according to plan, and further support was provided as needed.
