This summer, Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres hinted about his anticipated departure from Sporting CP, which undoubtedly caught Coventry City’s attention.
Gyokeres’ penalty kick, which was scored 11 minutes into stoppage time at the end of the 90 minutes, forced the game into extra half an hour. Gyokeres was speaking after his club won the Portuguese Cup by defeating Benfica 3-1 after extra time to clinch a domestic double.
A week prior, Sporting had defeated Vitória Guimarães 2-0, with Gyokeres scoring the second goal, to secure the Primeira Liga title in Portugal by two points from Benfica.
The former Coventry striker concluded the season with 52 goals from 49 appearances across all competitions, capping an incredible campaign. He has scored 68 League goals in 66 games throughout his two years in Portugal.
Victor Gyokeres suggests a Sporting CP move, with an anticipated summer departure.

The Premier League powerhouses Arsenal are searching for a new center-forward to lead their next title challenge, and Gyokeres did not rule out any connections outside of Lisbon when he spoke to the media about his future following Sporting’s victory that guaranteed them the league and cup double.
Gyokeres stated, “Let’s see,” according to The Mirror.
Gyokeres responded to rumors of an Arsenal connection by saying, “I don’t know, I just focus on this. I’ve tried to focus on the last games because it’s so important, and I don’t want to think about anything else.” “It’s hard for me to say, because yeah, it is football and you never know what’s going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible.” “So yeah, if anything is true, let’s see in the summer.”
Coventry City set to benefit from Viktor Gyokeres sale this summer

Coventry City will be especially interested in all of this because of a sell-on option in his contract that has long been known about.
According to a 2023 report by Portuguese media site ojogo.net, Coventry and Sporting have a 15% sell-on clause in their deal that drops to 10% if he meets specific success goals.
This is in addition to the €20 million (£17.5 million) that they had previously disbursed, plus an additional €4 million (£3.35 million) in bonuses.
Doug King, the Coventry owner, acknowledged in an interview with talkSPORT in November 2023 that Gyokeres’ contract included an £85 million release clause.
But according to rumors of Arsenal’s interest, he could depart for around £60 million, which would provide the Sky Blues an additional £6 million, assuming his “success benchmarks” had been reached.
Arsenal is now the front-runner to bring the 26-year-old back to England, although Gyokeres had previously been linked to Manchester United because of their choice to appoint Ruben Amorim, with whom he had worked at Sporting, as head coach last year.
However, Coventry City will be most interested in what he sells for since they will receive a part of any proceeds from the transfer, regardless of where he ends up in England.
