Villa lead race in talks to land talented young prospect: Aston Villa are reportedly in pole position in the race to land the signature of talented Feyenoord youngster Zepiqueno Redmond.
Since joining the Dutch powerhouses in July 2019, the 18-year-old has progressed through the youth ranks and earned seven caps for the Netherlands at the U19 level.
Redmond is versatile enough to play a variety of positions to complement his skill and ability in the final third, even if center-forward is his more natural position.

It’s unclear if we can beat the competition and sign him this summer, but Villa is reportedly in the lead to sign him after starting negotiations with Feyenoord over a transfer agreement, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Naturally, Unai Emery will not be able to sign him right away due to his age and inexperience, but it is clear that the Villa scouting and recruitment team has recognized his potential and thinks he has a bright future ahead of him, which aligns with the goals we are pursuing at the club.
However, since Marcus Rashford’s loan is scheduled to expire at the end of the season, Ollie Watkins is our only option to lead the line, so it’s definitely an area of the senior team that needs to be examined this summer in order to find a quicker solution.
To ensure that we can compete on several fronts, Emery will want to give the team more firepower before the upcoming season, but if Redmond does show up and keeps improving, he might be a longer-term option.
Time will tell if Redmond is first added to our youth setup and if he is viewed as a prospect to be used in-house or as a transfer tool in the future. It could also be part of a broader transfer strategy that Villa has recently adopted. This is because, in order to balance our books under the pressure of PSR compliance, we must continue to develop young talent and sell them on for a profit.
