Wales winger Thomas signs for Stoke.
Sorba Thomas, a winger for Wales, has joined Stoke City.
The 26-year-old, who has 17 caps for his nation, spent the previous season on loan from Huddersfield Town to Nantes in Ligue 1, with a purchase option included.
He was replaced despite just playing as a substitute in the 80th minute of a match against RC Lens in November, which caused racist taunts on social media throughout his stay in France.
Thomas played 25 games for Nantes, helping Les Canaris finish in 13th position with one goal against St Etienne. He had previously played at John Smith’s Stadium for five seasons.
Although he has committed to a three-year contract at the bet365 Stadium, the West Ham United academy product is currently playing for Wales in their World Cup qualifying matches.
“It’s a huge plus to get the deal done early in the window,” Stoke sporting director Jon Walters stated on the club’s official website. It indicates that he is in the building, will start pre-season with us right away, and can settle in fast.
He has a good physical profile, puts in a lot of effort when not in possession, and technically, he is quite good, particularly when it comes to his delivery into the box.
“[Assistant manager] James Rowberry has worked with him closely in the Wales set-up, so we know exactly what he’ll bring on and off the pitch.”
