Warning of 10 nights of road closures at major roundabout for ‘essential works’

Bolton Council said the closures would ‘allow essential works to be carried out and are being done overnight to reduce disruption’

A major roundabout between Middlebrook Retail Park and the Bolton Wanderers Stadium will be partially blocked nightly for the next two weeks.
As part of the Beehive roundabout upgrade initiative, road closures on Chorley New Road and De Havilland Way will begin on Monday, July 21, to enable for surfacing work.
The partial closures will take place overnight, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. On July 21, Chorley New Road eastbound will be closed on the Horwich side as it approaches the roundabout.

All other arms of the roundabout will remain open, with the closure in effect for one night. On July 22, Chorley New Road will be open in all directions, as will De Havilland Way.
However, the section of the roundabout used to turn right from Chorley New Road onto De Havilland Way will be closed, with right-turning traffic diverted via the gap in the central reserve on the Bolton side of the roundabout.

The closure will remain in place for one night. On July 23, Chorley New Road will be accessible in all directions, but the part of De Havilland Way south of Chorley New Road to the Lostock Lane and Mansell Way intersection will be blocked, with no access from Chorley New Road.

The northbound part of De Havilland Way will be open between Mansell Way and Lostock Lane to Chorley New Road.

The closure will remain in place for eight nights. All road closures will have clearly marked diversions in place.

There are no daytime closures proposed.

A spokesperson for Bolton Council stated, “These road closures are to allow necessary improvements to be completed and are being done overnight to minimize disturbance.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

The larger work include renovations to the roundabout near the Beehive bar and the slip road to the Middlebrook retail park, which is close to Bolton Wanderers’ Toughsheet stadium. The construction includes expanding the highway to both the roundabout’s center island and southbound De Havilland Way.
