Watford backed to secure “substantial” transfer fee for £32.5k-a-week star – he is “pushing for a move”

Watford finished 14th in the Championship last season after a poor second half of the season that saw their play-off

push collapse. In May, they decided to fire popular head coach Tom Cleverley and hire Pezzolano in his place.

In a statement following Cleverley’s dismissal, Italian owner Gino Pozzo stated that the Hornets would do

“everything in our power to keep those more experienced players in our squad to help the younger members in their

development.” Pezzolano’s appointment seems to have signalled the beginning of Pozzo’s increased involvement with

the team.

Imran Louza, a midfielder, has reportedly told the Watford Observer that he is eager to leave Vicarage Road this

summer. The Sun also reports that the 26-year-old has submitted a transfer request following a falling out with

Pezzolano.

Louza paid £9 million to join Watford from Nantes in the summer of 2021, and after spending the second half of the

2023–24 season on loan at Lorient, it appeared that his time with the team was coming to an end. However, he

excelled after Cleverley brought him back into the fold last season, winning Player of the Season.

When asked what he thought of the rumours that Louza is trying to leave, FLW’s Watford fan pundit Justin Beattie

stated that he would be sad to see the midfield player go, but he acknowledged that he didn’t know how much the

Hornets could ask for the transfer, but he predicted that they could get a good amount for their star.

“If you wind the clocks back a season to this time last year, I think most fans wouldn’t have felt much of a sense of

frustration at the thought of Imran Louza moving on,” Justin stated to FLW.

He did, however, win Player of the Season after having an excellent second half of the previous campaign. It was

hoped that he would be one of our main players and carry on with that form into the upcoming season.

Since I think he has a contract with the team through 2028, this would indicate that the player is more interested in

making a move than the team is in trying to let him go. That would seem he is the one requesting a transfer.

The majority of Watford supporters, in my opinion, will be saddened by this since the owners have stated that they

would prefer to retain our best players in order to push for possible promotion the following season, and Imran

would be essential to that.

“I have no notion how much to charge him in terms of a transfer fee. Given that he still has a few seasons left on his

contract, I assume the cost will be high.

“I wouldn’t like to put an exact figure on it because my estimates are usually wrong.”

Big Imran Louza windfall could help to ease Watford frustration

After his impressive form last season, the news that Louza is pushing to leave the club is a big blow for Watford, and

the fact that it is due to a dispute with Pezzolano is a little alarming so early into the 42-year-old’s tenure at Vicarage

Road.

Louza will surely be a great loss even though he hasn’t always played regularly for the Hornets. He was a major

creative spark and an increasingly powerful character last season, and he frequently donned the captain’s armband.

Even though it will be difficult to locate a player of comparable calibre, Watford might spend the money on a

replacement for the Morocco international if they were able to get a figure in that area, as The Sun reports that Louza

could now be worth up to £12 million.

Alternatively, they might try to distribute that amount of money among the players so Pezzolano can truly establish

his dominance on his Watford team.

According to Capology, the centre midfield player makes £32,500 a week at Vicarage Road. Removing him from the

wage bill could allow the team to save a substantial sum of money or give them more freedom in the transfer market.
