Watford confirm signing of Vivaldo Semedo from Udinese.

Watford have completed the signing of Vivaldo Semedo, believing he will develop into a “top-class striker” who will “definitely play a role” this season.

As previously reported by the Watford Observer, the 20-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract following his permanent move from Udinese.

Vivaldo Semedo became Watford’s fifth confirmed addition this summer. Vivaldo Semedo has become Watford FC’s sixth confirmed addition this summer. “Vivaldo is exactly the kind of player profile we want and need at Watford,” stated Gian Luca Nani, sporting director.

“He is only 20, but we are confident he will develop into a top-tier attacker because his pace and strength already distinguish him as a promising potential. “He will learn from Paulo [Pezzolano], and we are certain that he will adapt swiftly to English football based on his previous progress.

“We think he is the future but he will also definitely play a role this season in the Championship.” Semedo becomes the Hornets’ fifth acquisition this summer, following the arrivals of Hector Kyrprianou, Nathan Baxter, and Marc Bola, as well as James Abankwah’s season-long loan return, but he will not be the last.

Caleb Wiley’s loan return from Chelsea is expected soon, winger Pape Diallo is close to joining from Metz, and Watford is also looking for more offensive alternatives.

Semedo, who was born in Angola, signed a three-year contract with Udinese in 2022 after joining the Sporting Lisbon Academy in 2018.

The 6ft 4in forward made his debut for the Pozzo-owned club against Hellas Verona in January 2023 before heading on loan to Dutch club Volendam a year later, where he appeared 13 times in the Eredivisie and scored once.

He joined Liga Portugal 2 team Vizela on loan in September last year, and firmly established himself in the starting XI at the start of this year, scoring nine goals in 18 games to help his side reach the play-offs, where they were defeated 5-2 on aggregate by Avs FS.

Overall, the forward, who has been capped at every international age group from Under-17 to Under-20, appeared 29 times last season.
