However, it seems recruitment work has begun regardless of the wait for a new Baggies boss, with several senior players set to move on and replacements needed to plug gaps in the squad.

Over the weekend, reported that West Brom have already made their interest in Jamie Donley known to parent club Tottenham Hotspur. The 20-year-old has starred on loan at Leyton Orient this season and is on the radar as a potential target at WBA.

The Championship side have made an enquiry over a possible deal for Donley, who is currently focused on the League One play-offs with the O’s. They played out a 2-2 draw with Stockport County in the first leg on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs loanee Donley has been a big hit in his maiden loan with Leyton Orient, so it is unlikely West Brom are the only side eyeing a deal for his services ahead of the summer.

The Northern Irish prospect perhaps started slower than hoped, as did Richie Wellens’ side as a whole, but he has played a starring role in their electric form since the start of December.

Playing as an attacking midfielder, the Tottenham talent has registered eight goals and 11 assists in 50 games for Orient. He’s shown an eye for the spectacular too, both with ambitions long-range efforts and stunning assists.

A deal for Donley might start to indicate the beginnings of a fruitful transfer link between West Brom and Spurs.

In January, WBA signed young striker Will Lankshear on loan and while he didn’t find the net at The Hawthorns, his promise was clear. Perhaps Donley, having stood out in League One, would be better equipped to have a notable impact.

It was the first deal between the two clubs since 2016, when Nacer Chadli signed permanently and Alex Pritchard arrived on loan. Time will tell if Donley follows suit though with the player’s season at Leyton Orient still ongoing.
