West Brom news: George Campbell transfer, Darren Fletcher’s Man United involvement, Mikey Moore explanation

West Bromwich Albion are making strategic moves in the transfer market as Ryan Mason shapes his squad for the 25/26 Championship season.

The Baggies have made permanent signings of Nat Phillips from Liverpool, who impressed on loan at Derby County last season, and Norwegian attacker Aune Heggebø from SK Brann.

An international arrangement with the United States is imminent

West Brom are allegedly closing in on a permanent agreement to sign Montreal defender George Campbell, with the 24-year-old a major target for Ryan Mason as he seeks to strengthen his side’s defensive options even further.

Campbell, who stands 6’2″, has made 78 appearances for CF Montreal since signing from Atlanta United in 2022, and his performances have been excellent enough to earn him a call-up to the US national team, where he will make his debut in January 2025.

Bristol City were also said to be interested in Campbell, but West Brom appear to have won the race for the American defender, with the deal certain to be completed in the coming days.

Former captain lands new role with Manchester United

Former West Bromwich Albion captain Darren Fletcher has been named Manchester United’s U18s head coach, marking a significant step forward in his coaching career.

The 41-year-old captained the Baggies for two and a half seasons and has taken on the post with immediate effect as he works his way up the coaching ranks at Old Trafford.

He joined West Brom on a free transfer in February 2015 and was immediately given the captain’s armband by manager Tony Pulis. Fletcher made 97 games for The Hawthorns and helped the team reach 10th in the Premier League during his time there.

Fletcher’s appointment follows a varied coaching career since hanging up his boots in 2019. After returning to Manchester United as head coach of the U16s in 2020, he was elevated to first-team coach by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021.

He was subsequently appointed technical director in March of that year, but he returned to first-team coaching duties under Erik ten Hag and continued in this position under Ruben Amorim.

Tottenham star’s injury issue revealed ahead of prospective West Brom deal

Mikey Moore, Tottenham Hotspur’s teenage wonder, is set to pass his physical ahead of a possible move to West Brom, despite missing games last season due to a virus.

According to West Brom News, Dr. Rajphal Brar said that he missed numerous games last season due to a sickness. However, this would not interfere with his medical treatment.

“Also, it should not be something that would see clubs avoid making a move for him as it’s not likely to cause long-term ramifications.”

Moore made three Premier League starts last season under Ange Postecoglu, so a reunion with former Tottenham Hotspur coach Ryan Mason might help his English football career take off.

According to Football Insider, West Brom are interested in signing Moore on a loan deal for next season as they look to strengthen their offensive options in the Championship. Moore, who is only 17 years old, would benefit from continuous playing time in the Championship, giving him significant experience and the opportunity to further develop his game – and Mason is well-versed in the transition from junior to senior football.
