West Brom urged to let player leave this summer on condition that will be “very beneficial.”

West Bromwich Albion played more casually on the last day of the 2024–25 season because they had nothing to lose,

and they defeated Luton Town by five goals in an eight-goal thriller.

Harry Whitwell, who entered with 12 minutes remaining, was given a full league debut amid all of that.

The 19-year-old centre midfielder played and scored frequently in both the Premier League 2 and Premier League

Cup for the West Brom U21s during the season.

Despite being included in numerous matchday squads the previous season, Whitwell is obviously ready for some

regular senior football, and it seems unlikely that the Baggies will be able to provide him the playing time he requires

in their lineup this year.

Whitwell wants to rejoin the team as a vital element of Ryan Mason’s squad in the future, thus FLW’s West Brom fan

analyst Callum Burgess thinks a loan move from The Hawthorns will be required.

“I think that Harry Whitwell will benefit from a loan out this season after making his first league appearance for

Albion in the last game of last season against Luton,” Burgess stated to Football League World.

With players like Isaac Price, Alex Mowatt, and Tammer Bany vying for the more attacking midfield position, there is

fierce competition in the midfield regions at The Hawthorns, and it is obvious that the inexperienced Whitwell won’t

be able to unseat those players from the starting eleven this season.

“He has competition for places with the likes of Price and Bany, and even though we’ve lost Grady Diangana and

John Swift in those areas this summer, it’s unlikely that we’ll target another midfielder,” Burgess stated.

“I believe he would improve much more if he moved to a League Two team.

“Instead of playing in Premier League 2 and occasionally getting substitute minutes, it would give him first-team football for a year.

“So getting some senior minutes under the belt will be very beneficial for him.”

Harry Whitwell’s next step should be in regular senior football

Despite playing predominantly in a midfield role, Harry Whitwell managed to notch eight goals and add another five

assists in all competitions for West Brom’s U21’s this past season.

Additionally, the 19-year-old captained the side on one occasion, against Everton in March.

A loan move further down the pyramid is unquestionably the best option for Whitwell’s development if the

competition at West Brom is too fierce and the young player isn’t yet ready to compete in a Championship team that

is in the running for the playoffs.

A move to a division Two team might be the best option if this loan is only for senior football experience. Whitwell

will be able to demonstrate more class in a lower division, setting himself up for a return to the Baggies at the end of

the season.
