West Ham Fans Send Nuno Espirito Santo Open Letter Amid Brentford Boycott Talk

Amid talk of a Brentford boycott, West Ham supporters send Nuno Espirito Santo an open letter.

As they prepare for their most recent conflict with the club’s owners, West Ham United supporters have sent Nuno Espirito Santo an open letter. Hammers United is spearheading demands for fans to abstain from the team’s home match against Brentford on Monday.

Nuno will be managing for the first time after he entered a mutiny with angry fans who want chairman David Sullivan and his vice-chair Karren Brady to step down. Graham Potter, who was fired after just eight months in charge, was replaced by Nuno just over two weeks ago. The main sources of annoyance are Sullivan and Brady’s alleged poor club administration and the contentious 2016 relocation of West Ham from their historic Upton Park home to the London Stadium. Prior to last month’s Premier League home match against Crystal Palace, which ended up being Potter’s final game before being shot, supporters demonstrated.

West Ham has lost all three of their home league games this season and is currently second from the bottom of the table, creating a hostile environment. Fans who are protesting say they support the team but not the Brady and Sullivan ownership regime. Nuno has already managed two away games. Prior to the international break, they lost 2-0 against Arsenal after previously drawing 1-1 at Everton. Sky Sports TV will broadcast Monday’s home match versus Brentford live, with a primetime kickoff of 8 p.m.

The London Stadium’s layout and the distance that supporters are seated from the pitch have drawn criticism from a number of West Ham supporters. It has frequently been called the top flight’s worst ground. When a supporter jumped onto the pitch, took the corner flag and placed it in the central area during Burnley’s 3-0 home loss in 2018, protests descended into violence. Sullivan was subsequently forced to evacuate for his own safety after being approached by an irate throng in the directors’ box at the London Stadium.
