West Street fire: Tiger Works temporarily closed after blaze above neighbouring Firepit Rocks on Sheffield party street.
Last night, the roof of a flat above a Sheffield city centre nightclub caught fire, with dramatic video footage showing flames shooting from the building.
Yesterday a flat above Firepit Rocks on West Street caught fire around 10 p.m.
Videos were quickly distributed via social media.
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue reported a “major incident,” with aerial ladders used to fight the fire.
Last night, residents and revellers stopped to witness the firefighting operation, as captured in videos.
Today, any damage to the building or flats is not visible from the street.
However, water continues to drip onto the pavement outside Firepit Rocks.
A sign at the entrance to Tiger Works next door reads: “Unfortunately, we are closed due to a safety hazard in the flats above the adjacent building.” I apologise for any inconvenience.
SYFR’s spokesperson reported that firefighters from Central, Birely Moor, Rotherham, and Parkway fire stations responded to a fire on West Street at 9:48pm yesterday.
Upon arrival, crews extinguished a roof fire using two hose reels and an aerial ladder.
“The crews left the scene at 12:34 a.m. The fire is thought to have started accidentally.”
The fire service reported a “busy night” with 10 incidents, including three van fires (either intentionally or unintentionally).
