The pundit was left almost speechless after a disastrous Rangers moment in the Champions League.
A co-commentator was horrified following a horrific moment for Rangers’ Wolves loanee in their Champions League defeat at home to Club Brugge.
Following a poor first leg at Ibrox, the Light Blues are up against it in their play-off encounter, with three goals in the opening 21 minutes. It began disastrously when Nasser Djiga, who had been brought on loan from Wolves in the summer, got into a bizarre mix-up with goalkeeper Jack Butland, allowing Romeo Vermant to lob the stopper from long range.
The match was televised on Amazon Prime, and the moment perplexed Rangers hero and former coach Neil McCann about the game’s co-comms. He stated that, while it was a magical moment from the Brugge man, things couldn’t have been worse for his ex.
Club Brugge first goal vs Rangers reaction
McCann yelled on co-commentary: “As a manager, you simply cannot legislate for that one, I’m sorry. But Vermant, what a finish! First and foremost, let us discuss the quality of the finish. I’m not sure if he had a touch, but having a touch of that level to open the scoring is fantastic. Let’s be honest: he shouldn’t be getting it.
“Djiga has complete control; just run back and pass it to Butland.” I honestly can’t explain what Djiga is thinking there. I’m not sure how advanced Jack Butland may be, but this is a nasty mess. That is the level of Champions League football, for the first time, a beautiful tiny flight chip.
“Just enough to clear Butland, who is in no man’s land.” But what a dreadful start for Rangers. I mean, you’re at the good end of the pitch, Danilo’s shot is blocked, and 10 seconds later, the ball is in your own net.”
Russell Martin reaction to Rangers vs Club Brugge
Rangers head coach Martin remarked after the game: “We gave them a goal with the first kick of the game in our half.” We concede a ridiculous goal and don’t reply nearly as effectively as we should, and then we concede another goal we shouldn’t have – we don’t perform our jobs from set play, which is quite irritating.
“Then it gets extremely difficult, and we make decisions out of desperation and anxiousness, jumping around when we shouldn’t. So the game plan went out the window, and we needed some time to cool down, refocus, and reevaluate. The lads demonstrated incredible resilience in the second half, and the tie is still open, which the players are very aware of. Some of the boys have had a terrible start here, but the way they played tonight will help them grow tremendously. Now we’ll be the ones chasing and hunting.

Striker Danilo stated on Prime: “We don’t want to allow that kind of goal so early in the game, but it is up to us to change and perform better. That is exactly what we did. It is not what you want to hear; you want your supporters to be behind you and support you, but we must persevere. The fans deserve more. I don’t think the goal is very important considering we lost the game, but it does offer us some hope. We are Rangers, and we never give up, no matter what the score is. Hopefully, we’ll get the results.
